Lucy

Lucy

It was during the final year of her degree in Media Arts that Lucy had a green 'epiphany' so to speak! Inspired by River Cottage and her hero Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, as soon as she graduated she moved back home to Witney, Oxfordshire, and turned her parent's garden into an allotment, complete with chickens! She then went on to become an apprentice gardener at Worcester College in Oxford, whilst studying for a National Certificate in Horticulture at Abingdon & Witney College. It was here that she met her future husband Jonathan, and after completing her apprenticeship, along with a certificate in Garden Design & Decorative Horticulture, left her job in Oxford to concentrate on the smallholding and market garden business with Jonathan.

Jonathan

With a background in publishing and computer science, Jonathan felt constrained and fed up with office life. His family had recently acquired a piece of land, which apart from the odd bonfire and BBQ, was left dormant for the rest of the year. Having grown up with a passion for horticulture, he decided to make a start developing a smallholding, planting the first few trees of what was to become an orchard in 2007. Later that year he met his future wife Lucy after enrolling on a Horticultural course at Abingdon & Witney College. With a mutual love of the outdoors and 'the good life' they soon earned themselves the nicknames 'Tom & Barbara'. Starting small with weekend stalls at local farmers markets with their produce, they realised they couldn't keep it up whilst both working full time during the week. They took the plunge in 2010 becoming fully self-employed and working on the land, building the business up until they were able to open their own 'farm shop' in Eynsham, Oxfordshire in 2012.
